Heres Carrier Screening Test
1 in 40 couples is at risk of having a child affected by a recessive genetic disorder, often without knowing it. These conditions account for 20% of infant mortality and 18% of paediatric hospitalisations.
Heres Carrier Screening is an advanced genetic screening solution that analyzes whether you and your partner are carriers of recessive genetic diseases, allowing you to make informed decisions about your reproductive health and the well-being of your future family.
Heres Initia
Basic panel
Heres Seq
Standard panel
Heres Liber
Compatible and customisable panel
Which of the 3 Heres carrier screening solution options best suits your needs?
Heres Initia
- Analyses a targeted panel of 30 genes, including X-linked disorders
- Identifies donors who are carriers of the most prevalent disorders
- Used to screen both egg and sperm donors
- Ensures carrier donors are only assigned to patients who do not carry the same disorder
- Once a donor is selected for treatment, a more comprehensive test is performed for genetic matching, without requiring a new sample.
Heres Seq
- Analyses more than 300 genes
- Performs genetic matching with the partner or a gamete donor
- Detects mutations responsible for the most prevalent diseases, regardless of ethnicity or geographical origin
- Reports on pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants identified in the patient. Includes all diseases recommended by leading Spanish societies of genetics and reproduction, incorporating the Initia panel
- Includes a genetic matching report for the partner or selected donors
Heres Liber
- Sequences more than 1,200 genes
- Obtains the necessary data for genetic matching with patients or donors previously evaluated using other carrier panels.
- Cross-references compatibility between samples analysed with any carrier test, not just Heres.
- Provides a clear, high-quality, and easy-to-understand report without increasing costs.
- It allows the creation of custom panels for each center according to its needs.
Test Procedure
The Heres test can be performed using either a blood sample (two EDTA tubes via venipuncture) or a saliva sample (using a specific kit).
After collection, the sample is sent to the laboratory, where it is analysed based on the selected panel.
Results and a detailed report are delivered within 21 working days.
Recommendations
Blood samples must be sent at room temperature within 72 hours; if this window is exceeded, they must be refrigerated.
Saliva samples can be sent at room temperature within 72 to 96 hours of collection.
Avoid exposing samples to extreme temperatures during transit.
A useful tool for preventive medicine
Integrating HERES into reproductive preventive medicine identifies couples at genetic risk before conception. It is highly recommended for individuals planning to start a family, gamete donors or recipients, couples with a family history of genetic disorders, or anyone seeking to reduce the risk of passing hereditary conditions to their offspring.
